Skipping out on his future seemed like such a good idea at the time, the stuffy seriousness of the Watcher's council at odds with every anarchic little bone in his body, and with friends like Ethan to encourage that rebellion? It was surprisingly easy, despite the pressure, to disappear into London with his friends and enjoy the drugs, spells and rock 'n' roll.

He felt like it would last forever, like he'd never go back to all the prim and proper nonsense, he even said as much to Ethan, one evening as they lazed in their shared flat with the music blaring.

Later, when he turned out to be wrong, he forgot the conversation - but Ethan didn't. Somewhere in the future he paid another visit to the adult Rupert Giles, and Ripper woke up somewhere new.

The bed was far more comfortable than he remembered it being when the unfamiliar, blaring alarm cut through his sleep. His mouth tasted of magic and cigarettes and for a second he was willing to blame that for his disorientation - until he realised that the room he was in wasn't one he'd ever been in before, and the sunshine streaming through the windows was definitely not the London rain he'd left behind.

He stumbled down the stairs, taking in the unfamiliar surroundings with a frown.
Well. This was new.
